Dryer Duct Repair

Seems like everyone has a dryer in their house these days, it is one of the most abused and mistreated appliances in the house. All people ever do is toss their wet clothes in them and turn it on, and if they think about it they might remember to clean out the lint filter every once in a while. Sounds pretty typical doesn't it, but what about that pile of lint that is building up behind the dryer? Most of that comes from the need to repair the dryer duct. When you bought your last dryer it probably, if you were lucky, came with a piece of flexible plastic hose to connect it to the vent sticking out of the wall or the floor. If you live in an older house where the laundry room is located in such a way that the dryer vent is on the outside wall the only thing you really have to do to repair a dryer duct is replace it. If you try to repair it with something like duct tape you are setting yourself up for a possible catastrophe. The taped area will cause lint to stick creating a blockage in the duct. As this blockage grows several things can happen none of which are good. The first thing you will notice is that your clothes are taking too long to dry wasting energy, then as the air flow further reduces the carbon dioxide level in your home may rise which is a major health risk.

Finally and by far a worst case scenario, the lint and dust will build up and cause your dryer to overheat causing a fire that can lead to losing everything you own. It's hard to imagine all of this caused by not taking the time to repair a dryer duct correctly.Many of the homes built today have a laundry room that is in the middle off the house or worse yet the washer and dryer are located in a closet somewhere out of sight in the house. When they are located like this the dryer duct is generally much longer and tends to run under the house creating the possibility of a much bigger problem. By running hose or metal pipe under the house a situation of out of sight out of mind is created in which a person might never know they need to repair the dryer duct.
